On the Road With Jesus

This Sunday at Myrtle House Community Church, Martin O’Brien led us deeper into our Beyond the Cross journey, exploring one of the most moving resurrection encounters in Scripture—the Road to Emmaus. It’s a story that reminds us that resurrection is not just a moment in history, but an ongoing, life-shaping reality that meets us right where we are.

The account in Luke 24 paints a vivid picture of two followers of Jesus walking away from Jerusalem, weighed down by disappointment, confusion, and shattered hope. They had believed Jesus was the one, yet now He was gone. And in the middle of their grief-filled journey, something remarkable happens—Jesus comes alongside them. Not in a grand, dramatic entrance, but quietly, personally, and unrecognised.

This moment speaks powerfully into our own lives. How often do we find ourselves walking through seasons of uncertainty or discouragement, trying to make sense of what God is doing? The beauty of this story is that Jesus doesn’t wait for us to have it all figured out. He meets us on the road—in our questions, in our conversations, in our honest struggles.

As they walked, Jesus joined them. As they talked, He listened. And only after hearing their hearts did He begin to open the Scriptures, gently revealing truth and bringing clarity. It’s a powerful reminder that transformation doesn’t come through quick fixes, but through relationship—through walking with Him, talking with Him, and allowing Him to speak into our lives.

The turning point comes when they sit down together. In the breaking of bread, their eyes are opened—they finally recognise Him. What was hidden becomes clear. What was confusion turns into conviction. Their despair is replaced with burning hearts full of hope and joy.

This encounter shows us that resurrection is a process of revelation. It unfolds in the ordinary rhythms of life—walking, talking, sitting, sharing meals. Jesus is not distant; He is present in the everyday moments, drawing near, speaking truth, and opening our eyes.

The question for each of us is simple but profound: Where are you on the road today?
Are you walking in disappointment? Wrestling with questions? Or beginning to see with fresh clarity who Jesus is?

Wherever you find yourself, the encouragement is the same—Jesus is with you. He sees you, hears you, and walks beside you. And as we continue to journey with Him, allowing Him to speak into our lives, we too will find our hearts burning within us.

Resurrection life is not just something we celebrate—it’s something we step into. And the invitation still stands: will you walk with Him?
