Why do we...?

Why do we Worship God?

"You must worship the Lord your God; serve only Him."

Matthew 4:10

Why do we have Speaking in Unknown tongues and the Interpretation in the Church?

"So, dear brothers and sisters, be eager to prophecy, and don't forbid speaking in tongues. But be sure that everything is done properly and in order."

1 Corinthians 14:39 & 40

Why do we have Audible Praise to God?

"Praise the Lord I tell myself; with my whole heart, I will raise his holy name."

Psalm 103:1

Why do we Sing Songs as well as Hymns?

"Don't be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, let the holy spirit fill and control you. Then you will sing Psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, making music to the lord in your hearts."

Ephesians 5:18-19

How do we Worship God?

"But the time is coming and is already here when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father is looking for anyone who will worship Him that way. For God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth"

John 4:23-24

Why do we Sing in Tougues and in English?

"Well then, what shall we do? I will do both. I will pray in the spirit, and I will pray in words I understand. I will sing in the spirit, and I wil sing in words I understand."

1 Corinthians 14:15

Why do we Stand to Sing?

"Then the Levites from the clans of Kohath and Korah stood to praise the Lord, the God of Israel, with a very loud shout."

2 Chronicles 20:19

Why are Musical Instruments part of the Worship Service?

"Praise him with a blast of the trumpet; praise him with the lyre and harp! Praise him with the tambourine and dancing;praise him with stringed instruments and flutes! Praise him with loud clanging cymbals."

Psalm 150:4

Why do we Clap our Hands?

"Come everyone, and clap your hands for joy! Shout to God with joyful praise!"

Psalm 47:1

Why do we do Prophecy?

"But one who prophesies is helping others grow in the Lord, encouraging and comfronting them"

1 Corinthians 14:3

Why do we Lift Our Hands?

"So whoever you assemble, I want men to pray with holy hands lifted up to God, free from anger and controversy"

1 Timothy 2:8

Some Stories
Dave Kemeny
A young boy, six years old, was taken along by his parents to the huge (or so it seemed to him) stadium to hear the famous man speak. He remembers a choir, a singer with a deep voice and more people in one place than he had ever seen before. When the speaker had finished he made an invitation for anyone who wanted to follow Jesus, to approach the stage so that they could be prayed for. The boy's older brother got to his feet, but he himself was a little puzzled at what was going on.

The conversation in the car on the way home centred around what had happened and what it meant for the hundreds of people who made the long walk to the front. As the young boy was being tucked into bed that night, the penny dropped and he asked his Mum how he could ask Jesus into his life. She explained, then he prayed, and it happened.

The speaker was Billy Graham (Sydney 1969), the boy was me.

Craig Newton: I have a genuine relationship with Jesus Christ which sustains and fulfills my life.
Although I had a religious education and considered myself to be a  "christian" I spent most of my life oblivious to the reality of God. I was eighteen when I first started searching for honest answers to some  of life's fundamental questions... This inevitably led me to consider  the claims of the Bible... does God really exist, who is Jesus, what's  the significance of his death on a cross, did he actually rise from the grave... and does any of it really matter?

Claire Childs: I've never been happier or more fulfilled.
I thought I'd write about how I came to know God, sorry if I've told you all about it before but it's just too important/exciting to keep to myself.

I am a single mum of several children and soon after my husband left I felt able to fulfill a desire, long held, to move to Wales which was not only where my best friend lived but was also my birthplace.

Carys Mullock: I Have Given It Over to God
I was brought up in the Salvation Army but never really had a personal relationship with God. When i went into secondry school i started rebelling and i turned against God. In year 8 i argued with some of my friends and had no one and then I met Joy on the bus to orchestra on a monday night and we became close.

Elina Purfield: I Know God Has More To Do In Me
I’ll try my hardest to keep my story brief, I had fought illness and had bad experiences with men addictions. My life started being brought up in a Christian church, yet my experience was different in my mind ...at 13 I was stripped of my innocence unwillingly so my strong faith was turned upside down and I no longer saw myself as someone any good man would want. I was angry at God and battling with what I now know as M.E. I went into my teenage years alone as my parents moved away and I went off down many wrong paths. I lost two children at 16 and was told; after tests, that I couldn’t have kids.
