Becoming a Christian
What is a real Christian?

Being a Christian is not just what you do outwardly, or even a basic inward belief in "God", that doesn't make you a Christian. Becoming a Christian is all about honestly recognizing your urgent need for an active relationship with Jesus Christ and trusting him with your life, both now and beyond the grave.

A Christian is therefore someone who:

RECOGNIZES the spiritual truth about who Jesus claims to be

ACKNOWLEDGES their separation from God, because of their sin, and

ASKS Jesus for God’s forgiveness for all they’ve done wrong. Then begins to

LIVE a life of faithful obedience to God's word.

John 3:16 (MSG)
16 "This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life.

But why do we have to be 'saved' and from what?

Everyone has made mistakes and done wrong. 'All have sinned,' says the Bible. God will not allow ANY sin into heaven, so people must be completely 'clean'. But hang on a minute, you say, no one's perfect - so how can we ever get into heaven?
