Christians Against Poverty
Struggling with Debt?
Thousands of families in situations just like yours have already been released from the pressure of debt through a combination of advice, financial education. budgeting and insolvency services.

Is CAP just for Christians?
No. CAP will help anyone regardless of their religious beliefs. CAP aims to ensure that nobody receives less favourable treatment on the grounds of race, nationality, religion, age, gender, marital status, sexual orientation or disability.

Does it cost anything?
No. Our service is completely free. However, we always offer people the opportunity to give donations to the CAP charity so they can help more families. This is completely voluntary and will not be forced on you.

Will my creditors cooperate with CAP?
Yes. CAP is an award winning charity and are recognised within the finance industry. This means that councils, utilities and mortgage companies work with CAP because they have seen the results of their involvement. They know CAP offer fair repayments based on what you can afford.

The Steps to Freedom

Home Visit
After you call CAP, a Debt Advisor and Support Worker from Myrtle House, or your local CAP Centre will visit you in your own home.

An Effective Budget
A realistic budget is then worked out at CAP HQ by prioritising your essential bills, negotiating affordable payments with each creditor and stopping unfair interest and charges where posible. The Debt Advisor from Myrtle House or your local CAP Centre will then visit you again to explain the budjet and the payments you will need to make.

CAP Account
A CAP Account is then set up for you. This acts like a simple bank account. You will need to make one weekly or monthly payment into your account to cover all of your bills and debts. CAP will then distribute this on your behalf. You can also make savings in your CAP Account.

Insolvency / Bankruptcy
If you are in severe debt then we can walk you through insolvency, like petitioning for bankruptcy. We can help you fill out the forms and even attend court with you.

Debt free and beyond
You will use your CAP Account to pay your bills and debt repayments and you will be supported by a team at CAP HQ until you are debt free. You may keep your CAP Account even after you are debt free.
