Church Life Your Stories Craig Newton: I have a genuine relationship with Jesus Christ which sustains and fulfills my life.
Craig Newton: I have a genuine relationship with Jesus Christ which sustains and fulfills my life.
Although I had a religious education and considered myself to be a  "christian" I spent most of my life oblivious to the reality of God. I was eighteen when I first started searching for honest answers to some  of life's fundamental questions... This inevitably led me to consider  the claims of the Bible... does God really exist, who is Jesus, what's  the significance of his death on a cross, did he actually rise from the grave... and does any of it really matter?

Without knowing it at the time, I was embarking on a journey of great  discovery. I read as many Christian books as I could find, and started  going to church... Initially it was helpful, but over time I found  nothing really changed in my life and the novelty of church services  quickly gave way to boredom. I read stories of people finding faith  and having powerful encounters with God or experiencing radical  transformation in their lives and wondered what I was doing wrong. I  searched hard and asked questions, but nobody seemed to have the  answers I was looking for.

Out of frustration and confusion I stopped going to church. For three  months I tried to put God out of my mind, but it was useless. Eventually I found another church but this time it was different.

I quickly realised I was a sinner needing a Saviour. Jesus had already  dealt with my sin, hell, death and the devil. He was waiting for me to  accept salvation.

For all of my past church-going and education, no one had ever told me  I needed to repent and believe that Jesus is the Son of God who died  on the cross for my sins and was risen from the grave giving me  certain hope of eternal life.

No amount of study or church attendence alone would have been enough  to bring me into a relationship with Jesus Christ. Salvation is a gift, not a reward... You can do nothing to earn it! Repent and believe; It really is that simple.

Since making my decision to live for God, I've found purpose and  direction, but more impotantly, I have a genuine relationship with Jesus Christ which sustains and fulfills my life.
