Why do we...?

Why do we Worship God?

Why do we Sing Songs as well as Hymns?

Ephesians 5:18-19

How do we Worship God?

"But the time is coming and is already here when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father is looking for anyone who will worship Him that way. For God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth"

John 4:23-24

Why do we Sing in Tougues and in English?

"Well then, what shall we do? I will do both. I will pray in the spirit, and I will pray in words I understand. I will sing in the spirit, and I wil sing in words I understand."

Why do we Lift Our Hands?

"So whoever you assemble, I want men to pray with holy hands lifted up to God, free from anger and controversy"

1 Timothy 2:8

Passionate, purposeful, persistent prayer
In 2 kings 13 it is recorded that the leader of the nation, king Jehoash was desperately upset that the man of God was coming to the end of his life. The amazing thing here is the real dependence of the national leader on the spiritual leader, something that seems to have been lost to so many nations, ours included.
Our amazing monarch has ruled over our nation for 60 years, some would say that she is just a figure head, a tourist attraction, a Financial liability. Whether these are true or not one thing is true of her role and that is she is the defender of faith, a title given to the monarch on 11th October 1521, reconfirmed in 1554.
We know that our Queen can make wonderful speeches, her government can make pronouncements, implement laws and seek to steer our nation through these difficult times but if there is no Spiritual voice, no standard being raised by the people of God, what ever position they have in our society, our nation will be lost.
Jehoash knew this to be true for the nation he was leading and so did Gods man Elisha. Elisha gave some instructions to the king that involved him taking some action, maybe the most important of them being striking the ground with a handful of arrows. Those arrows represented the word of God and maybe the action of hitting the ground could be likened to praying. The passion, effort, persistence and maybe faith that was needed to hit the ground more than 3 times is what is needed today. A people who will humble themselves, allowing God to help them in their stretching times, (read the story) and pray, maybe, just maybe God will hear them and heal their land.
