The stoplight on the corner buzzes when it's safe to cross the street. I was crossing with an intellectually challenged co-worker of mine. She asked if I knew what the buzzer was for. I explained that it signals to blind people when the light is red. Appalled, she responded, 'What on earth are blind people doing driving?!' She is a Local County Council employee in Harrow, Middlesex, UK.... My daughter and I went through the McDonald's take-out window and I gave the clerk a £5 note. Our total was £4.20, so I also handed her a twenty pence piece as well. She said, 'you gave me too much money.' I said,'Yes I know, but this way you can just give me £1 back.' She sighed and went to get the manager who asked me to repeat my request. I did so, and he handed me back the 20 pence and said 'We're sorry but we could not do that kind of thing.' The clerk then proceeded to give me back 80 pence in change.. The secret is to not confuse the assistants at MacD's. Just a couple of stories that made me laugh, but the thing that struck me about these stories is that people love to tell stories about other people and have a giggle. But we are all the same, we love to observe human behaviour, sometimes we marvel at peoples selfless action trying to save or help others. As I write this the TV behind me in the coffee shop is reporting the tragic news of two fire fighters losing their lives fighting a fire in Southampton. Other times we are left speechless by someones selfish action or in a fit of giggles when we see something like the above. But whats my point? Its simply this, we are being watched....... dont panic, we all know about the CCTV cameras, (Im thinking we need some more here @Myrtle House, because of the break-ins ) Im not talking about that, Im talking about the fact that people all around us, family, friends, work colleagues and even strangers are observing our lives, our actions or reactions. The point is this, who we are often shouts louder than what we do. Your very lives are a letter that anyone can read by just looking at you. 3 Christ himself wrote itnot with ink, but with God's living Spirit; not chiselled into stone, but carved into human livesand we publish it. 2 Corinthians 3:2-3 (MSG) A group of pastors were discussing the possibility of having D. L. Moody serve as an evangelist at a city-wide evangelistic campaign. One minister was reluctant to have Moody speak. "Why Moody?" he asked. "Does he have a monopoly on the Holy Spirit?" The question was followed by a hushed silence. Finally another man spoke up and said, "No, Moody does not have a monopoly on the Holy Spirit. But the Holy Spirit does have a monopoly on D. L. Moody." What a powerful example! Are you being led by the Holy Spirit? Does it show? PS check out this months news letter to see how many people are watching MH via the web site. Bill |
